I was hired on Utelogy’s product team to redesign their AV and resource management experiences and coordinate cross-functionally to define strategic vision for future software experiences.

The redesign product experience leveraged advanced analytics, digital twin, and AI technologies to augment and streamline energy and resource management — enable intelligent alerting, enhance automation, and self-healing within a seamless, more intuitive, product experience, while providing massive benefit from valuable cost reductions.

CHALLENGE:

Utelogy’s product suite included four distinct software experiences, with alerting and reporting available in the cloud and the majority of resource management only available on-premises. First-run setup workflows and continued resource management lacked contextual guidance, required frequent content switching, and offered no clear paths between touchpoints. This experience forced users to rely heavily on support and technical product management to learn, set up, and manage their environments.

GOALS:

Users needed a lower barrier to entry and a unified intuitive software experience that facilitated broad visibility and management of their organizations resources. Our goal was to create a unified, cloud-based, device agnostic, software-only solution with intuitive workflows and robust reporting, that was easy to learn, understand and take informed decisive action to manage their organizations resources through a single, end-to-end software experience.

PROCESS:

Drove design discovery, direction, and strategic vision through user research and a data-driven design approach. Collaborating cross-functionally with product and engineering to shape product vision through industry analysis, user research insights, iterative design and technical innovation, while also supporting ongoing software initiatives

  • Conducted and synthesized research studies of business stakeholders, support team, Manage Service Providers and standalone end-users.

  • Socialized design - held cross-functional research studies and workshops, enabled participation and visibility to define and promote a common understanding of the user’s intentions, expectations, and goals.

  • Created fully functional proof-of-concept prototypes to enable feedback and solidify design and vision.

  • Design system creation, management, socialization, and documentation

OUTCOME:

Created a unified one-pane-of-glass solution that standardized on modern usability patterns, lowered the barrier to entry, and addressed customer-centric goals by enhancing visibility, accessibility, and action oriented clarity. The experience enabled continuous learning and intuitive resource management from a single touchpoint, while advancing product innovation, informed strategic investments, and aligning with Utelogy’s long-term vision and business objectives.
